I decided to take a break from Second Life because all the copybotting was starting to take its toll on my creativity. Anyway, I'm back, and I'm leaner and meaner than before.

Here is one of my very own designs. I hope you like it. It is a sporty shoe with loads of cuteness on board. I called it 'Silver City Messenger' because I was inspired by the style and feel of the game Mirror's Edge - if you have not seen this game you must check it out.

TESLA Vixen Desire - 6 Inch Heels RELEASED!

These are my latest addition to the Vixen range of sexy high heel stiletto pumps. Higher than ever, these patent pumps have a 6 inch heel - guaranteed to make you look delicious whatever you wear, or don't wear with them!

Uploading back and forth between SL and tweaking the shape in an external application, with a total of 27 uploads just to get the form that I exactly want. These heels also contain a script to raise your foot higher than SL normally allows, don't worry this script will continue to work wherever you go, even in script disabled lands, as long as you wear the shoes on script enabled land to activate them!

So the shape and form is quite different from my other Vixens, the most noticeable difference is a very precise sculpted invisiprim to 'force' the foot to conform to a more natural shape. They cost a bit more than the older Vixens, but don't worry, if this newest pump is a bit more than you can afford, I will still be keeping the original Vixens in the store for you to purchase.

In this particular Vixen Desire shoe, I've tried to make everything as perfect as possible - the form, the colors carefully chosen, the lighting to make the reflections, the reflection image, the seams and the shadows. I hope you will appreciate and adore this newest shoe to the Tesla collection, and may they bring you lots of pleasure and enjoyment!

Oh yeah, each pack contains a complimentary crossed leg model pose made by me, it is the pose that I used for the display photos that you see above!

Any day now, these boots (which represent many hours of dedicated attention) will be released in all their glory! I have been teaching myself new techniques, particularly with rendering, none of the textures have been photosourced but baked with realistic raytracing. Pictured above are the black pair, and there will be many other colors and variations to come. The photos were taken in world and were not manipulated - what you see is what you get!

'HARVEY' GRUNGE BIKER BOOTS RELEASED! by Tesla

These are the newly released distressed grunge biker boots named 'Harvey'! These are a must-have for the serious urban sim adventurer/ recession style fashionista!

All the textures including bump maps were completely hand painted without sampling photographic sources. I created several custom brushes to achieve that worn and battered leather look.

All the photos you see have been taken directly inworld in Second Life without any treatment in Photoshop.

Included in the pack are male and female sizes to get you started, and the boots are also resizeable with the built in resize HUD which you can activate by left-clicking on script-enabled land.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE LATEST SL CLIENT TO VIEW THEM PROPERLY

The boots were made utilizing the newest mirrored sculptie function in SL's latest client to ensure faster rezzing. If you have an older client, one of the boots will appear 'flipped'.

Despite having to deal with reports of stolen sculpt maps of my shoes being distributed around the grid (which has made me think twice about putting these out), I've managed to get a couple of photo previews of this future release.

These pictures were taken inworld and NO, I repeat NO photo-retouching/editing was done to them... What you see is what you get :) They are all my own handmade textures, no photo-sourcing was used.

Thanks for all those who support me and my work, and I have been making a concerted effort to bring you better quality shoes each time.

TESLA - Men's Urban Tactic Sculptie Boots! Yay for men!

I've been planning to make these boots for a long time, they're for guys!! YAY!... Fully sculpted prim, completely hand-drawn textures (including the baked bump map) People usually wear this style with the laces undone, so I've made the loose laces with flexi prims so they swing around when you walk! Oooh...

Perfect for the tough guy, or the clueless but cute! :)

Resizeable - just left click on the boots in a script enabled parcel and then use the pop up menu to make them fit.

I really enjoyed making these shoes, learnt many new skills, and figured out faster construction methods using more advanced techniques than ever before. Expect to see more high quality releases in the future!

Relay for Life: Fashion Expo 2008: My Contribution

The SL Fashion Expo 2008 is an exhibition featuring the work of SL's most exciting designers. It's a great place to discover new names and check out your favourites too.

Aswell as being a showcase for SL's fashion designers, the event is also working with Relay for Life to help raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Pictured above are my own contributions to the cause. Athena *Slither* is a one-of-a-kind item for auction, it's a special edition snakeskin version of the popular Athena peep-toe low boots. Priscilla is a high platform stiletto heel, available for a suggested minimum donation of L$250 at my store and at the Expo. All the money raised from the sale of these items go directly to the Relay for Life charity.

TESLA - My Own Thoughts About Minnu Skin Copy

I have spoken to various renowned designers, whom I shall keep anonymous, about this whole issue; unfortunately, they have decided to remain silent for fear of the consequences of speaking out on the matter. So, I feel that it is my duty as a creator of some influence and notoriety in SL to speak about Minnu using the work of Renderosity artist, Danae Kotsi, to make her new Gen 4 skin for her MMS store on her Glam World sim. Further information can be found HERE.

As a creator/ designer, I pride myself on having a discerning eye, and upon looking at the image comparison proofs provided by the highly regarded Renderosity artist, Danae Kotsi, I can clearly see that Minnu Palen has used elements of Danae's work in her own. Using another person's work is different from using a photosource because it's a shortcut from actually doing alot of the hard work.

I am not going to accuse Minnu of being a thief; she may have naively misunderstood the terms of usage in the licensing agreement: my main issue is really the question of her behaviour, pertaining to morality and ethics. At the end of the day, the content creators of SL are just ordinary people; we're individuals who play with prims and textures, not big corporations like Microsoft.

We are artists, and there is an unspoken code of ethics which we share within the creative community; it is not stated in any written book of law or agreement, it is accepted that we respect one another's work, as we expect others to respect our own. Because as soon as we overstep the mark and invade another person's expression, that's not creative: it's destructive.

I have had my fair share of copycats in SL, I see other 'content providers' using elements of my work in their own; just recently, a store was discovered putting their own textures and 'extras' over my own sculptie forms. In order for the designs to meet my standards, I spend hours tweaking the vertices of the sculptie mesh and creating the texture; even so, not all my meshes are perfect the first time, so you never ever get to see the totality of my work in the rejected sculpties. It's the same in Danae's case, no doubt she labored over several versions of her Manhattan skin to end up with the perfect one... It's like pushing a heavy boulder up a steep hill, and then someone else pushing it for the last two steps to the top and claiming all the glory for it.

Understand that a creator's work is like their child. They spend countless hours nurturing that child, watching it grow, and having pride in their offspring. If someone were to take that child and butcher them into pieces and make a Frankenstein monster from it, how do you think that would make the original creator feel? Once again, this is not about laws etc... It is about respect for another creator; the kind of respect that can only be fully understood when one has worked just as hard to create an original piece.

Once again, we are not monsters, we are not corporations who find loopholes in the law to increase their profit, but we are creative individuals who want to bring beauty into the world and share it with others, and it is for this reason that we respect one another.

Minnu may have gotten away with copying and disrespecting the work of a talented creator, but as a member of the creative community, she overstepped the mark. I can never view someone with such a corporate mentality as an artist. There are many of us who create for the pure pleasure of expression, the indulgence and celebration of creativity. Her kind of behaviour should not belong to SL.

I know that I'll probably be attacked for what I have said on this matter, then be it; I cannot idly sit by and watch an injustice done to a creative colleague. Hopefully, I speak for all those who prefer to remain silent. Apathy does not a good world make.

TESLA - Vixen_II - an old favourite revisted!!

Always imitated by other designers, but never the same, the seductive Vixen shoes have always been a favourite of mine. After releasing the first nine colours, many claimed them to be the most realistic looking classic pump in SL. Weeks later, I released the Vinyl Vixens which were the first shiny (as in reflective texture) shoes in SL - then everyone went absolutely bonkers (as in running around screaming waving a shotgun) for shiny shoes in SL and never looked back.

Well anyway, Vixen fans have been stalking me and harassing me to make more colours - yeah, I'm talking about fans of the 80s girl rock band. Threatened by their hairsprayed and peroxide blonde ambitions, I finally gave in to their demands and dug up my old Vixen shoe files which were gathering dust in my father's porn closet.

What I saw of the old Vixens, did not satisfy me; my jedi sculptie skills have improved much since those days before Windlight (BW). The Vixens are very much close to flukey perfection as I could have achieved, so the alterations I made are perceptibly minor. I've narrowed the frontend of the shoe, and made a slightly pointier tip - the sides and back of the shoe are now closer fitting, while taking the liberty of adjusting the shoe base too.

New textures have been added to the Vixen_II, shiny but not too shiny - in colours that are glossy and pearl-like - hence the name, the Pearl Collection. They look good with casual or formal wear; jeans or prom dress. Best of all, they mesmerize the onlooker, who might be caught staring and drooling on the shoes, with a tear in their eye.

Ya know, I got kind of fed up of the bad face lighting systems that people are using in Windlight - before my retinas got completely fried, I decided to give away, for completely FREE (yup, you heard right), my own face lighting system!!! WOOOT!

This system is better than most systems - WHY? because its the one that I made for myself and use on a daily basis - and everyone knows that everyone wants the best for themselves, right? Unlike other systems, this solution is subtle, it does not scream, 'I am wearing a torch', but it lights beneath the nose, eye bags, and jaw, so it softens the transition of shadows from dark to light, thus - making your face less ghoulish during the day, and making it more visible at night. PHEWW!

Anyway, I've decided to give this lighting system, that I've carefully tweaked, and optimized for Windlight too, as a freebie, so that people no longer blind me with their face suns.

So anyway, I was talking to my friend Agatha, you know Agatha? - Agatha Watkins, the old hag that lives down the road. Anyway, she was telling me about men; what are men? I asked her. Suffice to say, I discovered that there is another type of women in Second Life (tm) - they're called men, or 'guys' for short.

In honour of my great discovery, I've decided to bring these bizarre creatures up to date with our modern civilization by creating these shoes for them. They're Oxfords, and they're leather, and... and... they're contemporary, which is another way of saying they're cool - just like beans (cool beans)

I decided to set myself the rather daunting task of creating yet another sculpted prim shoe; this time, as an exercise, I asked myself what would Miss Havisham's daughter look like if she were a shoe. I wracked my brain over this one, just like Dickens might have at one time when he was writing his Great Expectations in the dim candlelight of his cramped living quarters. Eventually, Estella was finally manifested in the form of a platform heeled shoe with a teasingly cute floppy bow ribbow on the heel. Miss Havisham would have been proud, but be careful - she don't like any guys to do dirty tricks to her daughter... *mad laugh*

There have been rumours that Tesla store has been slowly going down the pan while newer shoe brands have been pushing my shoes to the bottome of the closet... Well, I've been punching frozen meat for the past couple of weeks, strengthening my fashion muscles, and I'd like to thank all my customers for continuing to support me - even though I'm suffering from madness...

Well, back to the shoes..l There are nine, yes nine! different funky colours with a swirley, yet mesmerizing texture, on the patent leather! All extremely girly girl shoes for girly girls.

Lately, I have been getting lots of requests for high quality photo-real renders of my shoes.

I took my Natasha high heeled stiletto shoes and rendered them outside of Second Life, with a perfect lighting setup and dedicated CG software to produce super-high resolution images. By the way, the shoes look much smoother than in SL.

So, if you want to bring your Second Life shoes into your real life, you can find super high definition - posters, prints, cards and fridge magnets, etc at my CafePress website.

I decided to design a cutesy little shoe with a slightly squared toe and lower heel. The texture theme is a contemporary re-interpretation of the 'polka dot'... Oooh la la!

I've named the shoes after alcoholic drinks because their colours are so lively and party-ish! - Tequila Sunrise, Summer Wine Punch, Pink Champagne, Chocolate Mint Martini, Blue heaven, and Black Magic ( which is just a plain patent black pair for the more adventurous fashionistas among you :)

TESLA - PANTYHOSE! - Sheer, Silky & Sexy - Thumbs up!

There's a myth that pantyhose are uncomfortable, sweaty and itchy - Not true - Well, not true if you spend your money on quality nylon. They may be a little more expensive than your regular run-of-the-mill pantyhose, but a luxury pair can do wonders for the look and appeal of your legs.

I've been asked, many times by my customers, why I don't make accessories like pantyhose to go with the shoes I sell; to be honest, I tried - I even tried photo-sourcing but to know avail; I just couldn't get the soft look of real pantyhose. Instead I looked all around SL, and couldn't find a pair that convinced me... until I discovered Eloria LeShelle's store Battered Boudoir. I noticed that she made hose that went with her outfits and they looked very nice - very sheer, with a nice sheen and soft look. So, I asked her if she would make a collection of sheer-to-waist and lace pantie pantyhoses to sell in my store.

These realistic pantyhoses have been painstakingly put together by Eloria; I know she toiled for hours and hours on these (she even accidently deleted some and had to start again). I said that I only want quality for my store, only the best for my customers and she delivered! You can tell by the attention to detail of the shades and highlights that these are quality pantyhoses.

There are four different packs to buy, each one a different denier. In each pack, there are ten different colours in three different styles (that makes thirty pairs!) to match most if not all your outfits. On COPYBOTS and FREE Warning Posters for your store...

I started SL like everyone else, with zero lindens in my pocket. Since I discovered the public sandbox, I haven't looked back - I now have my own store; needless to say, like many others,I am a self-made SL success story.

Every resident is given the same opportunity as others to create a career for themselves should they so wish, but unfortunately some feel that they are entitled to an unfair advantage to make lindens by exploiting the honest hardwork of others.

Believe me, I have missed meals, missed sleep, even missed parties so I can do what I love - designing and making things. Creative passion can go a long way in driving oneself to do what others might consider a chore.

Having said all that, there is nothing more heartbreaking in the world than someone stealing something that you have worked so hard and selling copies of it for monetary gain. It's as if they see your work as nothing more than that... money. You can tell, by the way they set up their stolen merchandise stores, that copybot users really have no imagination - no sense for design or beauty.

By doing what they do, they scare away the creative innovators that keep SL exciting and fresh. Without new things to keep us amused and entertained, SL will then become stagnant with old items and it's vitality will eventually wither away and die.

Maybe it's because some residents view SL as simply a game that they can't take seriously the implications of duplicating a creator's work without permission. Copyright infringement is a crime - that includes internet content - Many store owners will not hesitate to find and chase these lawbreakers to court, then prosecute them - leading to a fine and possible imprisonment.

I have produced a couple of posters for store owners to put up in their stores as a warning (but not necessarily a deterrent) to those who may undermine the severity of their actions. The copyright law is strict and is enforced in nearly every country. Hopefully these posters will make those who might consider committing such a crime understand that it could end up in regret.

I have discussed with other sl creators the possibility of setting up a bounty style reward system for those who can provide locations and evidence leading up to the prosecution of any copybot offenders. Right now, with the large number of merchants, it is possible to organize and fund an agency dedicated to protecting original creative work in SL.
